I''ve tried googleing it and I''m guessing its never happened to any one or I''m wording it wrong. When ever I release the E-Brake, the brake light dims, my day lights don''t work, head lights don''t work when turned on, and my high beams can only flash. Has any one had this problem or know of a solution? I''m going to need to do some night driving this saterday so any help as soon as posible is greatly appricated! I have a 98 Jetta 2.0L w/manual tranny.

did some more research on the issue and found out that the wipers only work with the high beams, and the fans come on as well when the high beams are turned on a second time...trying to find something that wont require me take off the air bag

Ok so according to this web site:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Why_would_the_emergency_brake_light_stay_on_after_the_brake_is_released_on_a_1997_diesel_Jetta_and_how_do_you_fix_it

its the electronic ignition switch. Does this sound right? I''ve found it for 9$ so its at least worth the try right?

go for it, what have you got to lose, you get the experience of working on the car, and if you fix it, then you can tell others about it!!
