Hello, was just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem. I have a 2002 Jetta GLS 2.0 and have been noticing the car is using up 2 quarts of oil. The car has only 45,000 miles. There is no smoke from the exhaust and no leaks. This is also happening to my friend's Beetle with the same motor.

how often do you think the oil is consumed? Does it take a week for 2 qts to be comsumed, or more like a month? Usually burning oil is due to worn seals, but after 45,000 miles it wouldn't seem likely, maybe there's a leak somewhere? When the car is sitting, is there a puddle underneath, blue smoke from exhaust is sure sign that you're burning oil.

It takes about 2 months to consume this oil. I have looked under the car and there are no leaks at all, the bottom of the car is dry. Also there is no smoke coming from the exhaust. I am the original owner of this car. I realize on cars with high mileage it is considered normal to use a quart of oil every 2,000 miles, but I would not think a car with 45,000 miles would be burning oil. My friend's car only has about 25,000 miles and his is doing the same thing. Unless this is normal on these smaller engines.

yea I would say thats bad, if it's under warranty see what the dealer says, if this was me, I would tear into it a lil more, see if you're losing compression, could be blown head gasket, piston seals, or anythiung of that nature....hope some of this helps..

Any evidence of brown foam at the filler cover?
