Hi I have a 2003 Jetta 1.8t with automatic transmission (trip). I have a problem getting it into reverse when the car is cold, it acts as if it was in neutral. I have to let it sit there for awhile and once it warms up a bit It goes into gear, all other gears are fine. After driving it all day it seems to be intermittent but generally goes into reverse. I took it to the dealer and they said that it needs a new trans, I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what they did. I can''t afford a new transmission :( . Thanks in advance.

sounds like a low fluid issue, the fluid is expanding enough when heated to engage the valve body, check your levels...

I know this may sound silly, but I cant find where to check the fluid, I looked in the manual and it said that you don''t ever check it and it can only be done by a vw tech. Today I got it back and they said that it was code 00300-027 gearbox oil temp sender-g93 and that the only way to fix it is replace the trans, I still think there might be another solution.

ya you pull the drain plug bolt out with the car running on a level serface
if fluid comes out then it is full if not add some through the filler tube (its below the starter)
the drain plug has a tube on it that is the highth of the level
