i am looking at this car to buy for my wife. the guys is offering it to me for 2K as is. it's in good shape, runs like a top, and has only 90'000 miles on it. the only issue is that it has a bit of a bug in it. the guy says every now and then it will do nothing when you turn the key. but you can let it sit for about 20 minutes and it'll start right up. also when it does this it likes to start out in 2nd gear, and like to die on you. i was wondering if this was a common problem with these cars and what the source of the problem is. any help is appreciated. if i don't bite on it by the weekend the car is goint to dealer auction and will be lost for good.

hummmm sounds like it could be a few thing's rob.

1) some alarm system causeing it not to start
2) a problem with the computer
3) a problem with the tranny
4) or if you are VERY lucky it is a loose wire

i would say that you will need to put about $100 - $500 in to it (assumeing that you do your own work)

i have the 2.0 not the VR6 so i do not know whole lot about them....

When you go to start it, do ANY of the lights come on? Or does nothing happen at all, if that's the case check your battery terminals and make sure the connections aren't lose. Also, check the wires to ECU, and make sure they aren't chaffed, or broken or anything, sounds like lose connections to the igniton system. As far as Tranny goes, that's a tough one, never heard of it before, does your clutch not disengage gears when this problem occurs?

this is a car on a lot so i really haven't got to drive it, but the guy said that when it throws this fit that the dash brake lights come on. i'm assuming this means the park brake and ABS lights.

yes it does.... ummm now it just adds to the confusion of what it could be with all the things going on i would think that it is the computer or a main wireing short (within the fuse box all melted to gether)
