Sorry for the newb questions, but I need some help.

My car (a total lemon) had it's clutch died while I was down in the middle of nowehere in NC. Anyway, the dealership where it was towed to (I thought it was still under warranty) said that a new clutch for my 2002 Jetta 1.8turbo would be $1900. Does that seem right? They offered to break it down (for $325) to see if it was a mechanical failure and, if so, fix it for free and not charge me for the breakdown. The local dealer I spoke with said that it's rarely mechanical at 47K and that they would charge about $1100 max. I've faxed in my service history to a lemon law attorney since I've had a ton of problems with the car (the manufacturer forgot to remove the vent plugs from the gas tank off the assemby line, for starters) so hopefully I'll qualify. Anyone have any suggestions or know of a website that would list the average cost of this type of repair? As it stands, I've got my mom's Jeep while she's in China, so at least I'm not stranded. Try not to laugh too hard at me. Thanks.

let me reword that. fight it to be a lemon. corect me if i am wrong but you need to go to court to get it lemoned out (in WI at least) take it to court and get it lemoned out. it sounds as if you have gone through to much with it already...

Well, I'm waiting to hear from a lemon law attorney to see if we have a case. As it stands, I've got a local mechanic who is going to fax me an estimate (something like $600---1/3 of what the dealership was going to charge me). I'll probably report them to the BBB when I get my car and everything is good to go. Still, there's nothing more fun than being asscheeks akimbo when the auto service industry gets to take turns screwing you.

I moved to Utah end of April, and my clutch went out. I have a 2000 Jetta VR6, and a dealer down here did it for $952.86, that's parts, labor, and taxes. I guess it's pretty, they even gave me a lightweight flywheel, which they installed, and free rental while my car was being fixed.
