Ive been trying to think of a good way to modifiy the intake on my gti but because of the CIS crap its not that easy nor does it flow or supply cold air very well...
I found this airbox you can buy from eurosport acces- CIS coolflow - although it seems quite expensive for what it is...so I got a better idea for a cold air inlet and I was wondering if anyone had thought of doing this...

There is a hole, about 3" in diameter right next to the airbox on my gti which goes down behind the front bumper although right now there is an evap canister sitting there - I was thinking of relocationg the evap canister and running some aluminum tubing up thru there to a silicone elbow (would be nice to have the bend in the tube but thats expensive). At the airbox I was going to cut a hole with a hole saw and expoxy or plastic weld a small plastic tube adaptor on the airbox for the elbow to connect to and sealing off the factory inlet thru the headlight and all the mufflers - I would rather fabricate a whole new airbox out of sheet aluminum and do the same sort of thing because I dont want it to look like complete dogsh*t but I might just get a box from the junkyard and try this first...

I recommend purchasing some thin plexy glass, (however you spell it) instead of sheet metal.

Why?

The aluminum sheet will allow me to bend it and I was planning on riveting it together, it doesnt need to be airtight - its below the maf

it's one more thing that will get hot under the hood and cause heat soak...

I knew you were gonna say that....blast

It would look so nice tho...ill just modify the stock box instead, i think i can do that and make it look nice...everytime I think of home intake modifications I think of when my buddy put a pvc cai with a monstrous k&n truck filter on his integra, worked great, just looked ghetto...the sad thing is, i got suckered into helping him with it

It's about performance bud lol, as long as it does its job, who cares how it looks. I'm sure though if you spend the time and effort you could make it look real nice, spend a few pennies more. I've seen some chop jobs and some real nice stuff, home made. It's possible . :-)
