Hi all...cool site.

But I'm not sure I qualifty to be here yet as I actually
don't yet own a vw.... I'm actually in the process of
buying a Golf V5 2.3 - Y redge 32k on the clock, from
a dealership.

Lovely car but for one thing that I'd like to get your
opinions on, if I may. The engine when idle sits at
about 700rpm (too low?) and seems to feel quite
'lumpy'? Is this normal for such a big engine? It's
been fully serviced - the oil on the dipstick is clean
and the engine performs beautifully when testdriving
on the A roads......and then we pull over and let the
engine idle....it feels 'rough' to me. Hard to explain
and probably for you to imagine...I want it but not if
the engine has been cooked......

Help purleeezzee!!!

Maybe you should visit another VW dealership and take out a different V5 to see how the two compare?  Or consider an AA vehicle inspection?

Assuming you're buying the car as an approved used VW you should be confident it's sound, but I know what you mean, when you're spending that kind of money you want to be sure it's A1.

Hope it all works out for you, let us know how you get on.

Stu.

I've a couple of friends that are into engines and
cars, etc... the've echoed the same sentiment if the
dealership in that the engine will always appear to
idle 'lumpy' as it's the nature of the V5 beast. With the
V valves being an uneven number and in an unusual
position. We're committed now - and I feel a little bit
happier that everyone seems to be saying the same
thing about the engine......coming from a 1.4i fiesta to
the V5 there are bound to be some differences I
guess....

Guys I'm stuck!!! I have a T reg Passat 2.3 V5 VR5. Its in beautiful met blue with contrasting cream leather / suede and fully spec'd out! Truly a magnificent prestige vehicle.

The car has M.O.T til June and has just been taxed for 6mths. It has F.S.H and 4 decent Pirelli P6000 tyres, two of which are new.

I'm trying to sell this car to fund the purchase of a new house, how much should I be pitching it at???

I've asked at two different VW dealerships and they both hav stated that the car is fairly rare so avoid going by book price but what they sell for. The only downside with that is that there none for sale!!!

Any ideas?? Many thanks.

Try searching the car on Ebay, see if you can find any and see what they go for.

Hi buddy, what a coincidence that you should say that because that is exactly what I have been doing. Ebay prices are indicating that I should sell for just over £4000. Now the onlything to do is advertise it. Not looking forward to that as I'm guna miss it! But heyho, the house purchase is more important ... for now! Thanks for the advise thou, appreciate it!
