vwjunky_01 -> Speedometer acting up. Help Please! (7/14/2006 12:39:39 PM)

My brother has an '03 Jetta 2.0L Auto. The problem with the speedometer is after you drive it for about 10-15 minutes and are on the interestate the speedometer starts to jump between 65-70. The car will still accelerate well past this, but will not register past 70. Also, if you set the cruise control it will surge with the needle. Before this though the speedometer will go past the 70 mark, it only does it after you have driven if for several minutes. It does not throw any codes either. I have searched the forums from several sites and can not find anything on this. A few people have had this problem, but they did not follow up in their forum with what might have fixed this. He has replaced the speed sensor in the transmission, but it did not fix it. So, please if anyone has had any experience with this any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Volkswagen spedo's tend to have these kinds of problems. I have a 1995 Jetta 2.0. My spedo would just twitch allong with the tach. You can either get a new one or you can have the one you have fixed. When i was in california prior to being stationed in Lakenheath england I had a spedo shop replace the electric motors that register the speed and the rpm's in the tach by means of the speed sensor in the transmission. this might be the problem, the motors might be going bad. you should have it checked out or diagnosed by a speedometer shop or (cringe) the deelership
