I was on the expressway tonight and I noticed the stick shift sticking when I tried to shift from fourth to fifth gear. It happened a couple of times on the way home then all of a sudden I couldn't shift into fifth gear at all (or I should say every time I shifted into fifth gear the rpms went way up, as if I had actually shifted into third gear.) I went back to fourth and I was okay, then went to third to see if that gear was okay. Of course the rpms went up there to because I was going too fast for third. Then I went back to fourth (okay) then to fifth (rpms went way up.) It was as if I suddenly had two third gears (it seemed like third and fifth gears were in distinctly different positions but they were acting like the same gear.) The stick shifted into fifth but fifth gear was acting like third gear (if that makes any sense.) By the time I got home I couldn't find first gear either or reverse. First gear was also acting like third gear so I had to use second as a starting gear. I was lucky to make it home. I have know idea how I'll pull out of my parking space in the morning. Can a transmission go bad so suddenly (there had been some sticking when I tried to shift into reverse for a few weeks, but I don't remember any problems with fifth gear.) Help?!
