Hi all, I just bought an 01 Golf 2.0 liter 4 cylinder about a year ago and it's tuneup time. The engine idles a little rough, I've had a loss of power in acceleration and my mpg seems to be getting worse. The engine seems to be louder than when I first bought it and when I'm in stop and go traffic on a hot day, the engine starts to overheat until I turn off the AC compressor, then the engine will slowly cool back down. I've replaced all spark plugs and plug wires, air filter and cabin filter, and run fuel injector cleaner through a ton of times. I've changed the oil regularly but my performance is still deteriorating. Is there anything else I can do or is it time to suck it up and take it in to a real mechanic??

I have used Sea-Foam several times for this type of tune up. You can get it at any autoparts stroe and its pretty cheap. You can use it several different ways too, on my dakota i had before my v-dub, i used it in the gas tank, to clean the fuel system, in the oil before a change to get the crappy old oil out a little better, and even in the throttle body to clean out the intake... Its a petroleum product so it wont mess a thing up. there are directions on the can i think its worth a try, i noticed a major difference in power and how it ran all together.
