I have a 1974 vw beetle. New rebuilt 1641cc engine. New carb, New dist. New everything. My beetle starts fine, but when I take off it sputters and spurts then it dies, most of the time it will not restart for a while then it will. Also sometimes when I first take off it sputters and spurts for a while and then it will run fine for a while then it will just die. I can be going down the highway and it will just die . My husband thinks it might be something to do with clogged fuel lines but he hooked up the air compressor and blew threw it and it was fine. He is now trying to install a new fuel line anyway because he says it has to be the fuel line because when he unhooks it from the tank everything flows great out of the tank. What do you think? Please help!

Fuel filter.....if the lines are good, then the in-line fuel filter is clogged. I would say pump, but then the car wouldn't even run at all. I say new filter.
