I have a jetta 87 TDI and I beleive I have a front wheel bearing that needs to be replaced. The problem is that I don't know which one. When I turn left the noice stops but when I turn right the noice increases. Which one is faulty? Both of them got replaced at 100 000 KM. My car has now 220 000 KM.

Thanks,

Rene.

Strange...both replaced already....rule of thumb, if you're gonna replace one, do both. Wheel bearings are a pain and so cheap you may as well just do them both. If one is gone, the other may be soon to follow. But it sounds like it's the left bearing. More weight on the bearing will make it noisy...so depending on which way you turn, the weight distribution can give you a clue. Have your ball joints checked as well, as with the tie rod ends.

Thanks Jeff, Thanks for you information and advices. I understand it is a good idea to check the tie rods and ball joints before starting the job as it would be very easy to replace them at the same time as the bearings.

I will follow your advice and change first the one that make the noice when the weight is on when turning.

Thanks again,

René
