I have a 1998 VW Beetle with the 1.9L TDI engine code ALH. I've got two motors one I've got 66.67 mpg(summer trip few stops avg speed 122 km\hr). The other motor is a 2001 1.9L TDI (ALH). So far the best I've got same kind of drive is 54 mpg. Now both of these motors were moving the same vehicle. WHY such a difference in mpg's. First the 66mpg motor was well boke in, and I had the injection pump timing tweaked. The 54 mpg motor is almost broke in, but the injection pump timing is as was from factory. I believe that this timing is critical to mpg's. DO NOT TRY AND ADJUST THIS IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO SPEND $$$ (Interference engine). It requires special tools, knowledge, a service manual, and MANY new bolts, Oh yeah lot's of time.
