2000 Jetta VR6

Recently when I hit lock with the remote keyless entry, it gives a half hearted "beep" and arms. BUT the drivers side lock button remains up. So if I hit the unlock button, THEN re-hit the lock button, all four buttons close, lock and a normal beep sounds.
Any idea?
Can't be battery as it is still working and I have to do it twice.

i would suspect you will be needing a newlock acuator . which may be one part with the latch assy. evil amperage /draw and armature type things are involved here and crystal ball is broken. does it buzz when it jams at half mast? i have a 98 intrepid that just had these type of fits and it was pass. side lock/latch assy. good luck

I have an '02 Jetta that had intermittent locking problems using the electric locks inside the care and the key fob. It was on the rear driver side for a few months before the rear passenger side began with the same problem. Both deteriorated to where they would only lock/unlock manually. I'll tell you EXACTLY what had to be done because I just picked it up yesterday from being fixed:

Install SOP/Brackets for door/locks. Installed rear door guides and one right rear door latch.
Labor: $400.00
Parts: $217.16
(1) 1J4-839-768-B Bracket replaced @ $2.95
(1) 1J4-839-767-B Bracket replaced @ $3.43
(1) 1J0-945-511-E Switch replaced @ $31.78
(1) 3B4-839-015-AE Lock replaced @ $174.98
(2) N-906-349-01 Pop-Rivets replaced @ $4.02

Ridiculous. It's been one annoying thing after another since the car was purchased.
- CD Player quit working and ate a CD - replaced under warranty
- Coating on the plastic/metal pieces on the doors and dash peeled off - replaced under warranty
- Ash tray/coin collector cover missing - replaced under warranty
- Tail lights burned out - got a ticket for that one
- Recall for passenger heated seat switch malfunction

Currently, intermittently, but several times a week, the car will suddenly decelerate for no reason like you've taken your foot off of the accelerator and no amount of increased pressure on the accelerator increases speed. It will only reengage after taking all pressure off of the accelerator and then depressing the accelerator again. No error lights, and the service department can't replicate the problem when they drive it.

I'll never own another VW.

I wanted to share a little story about this issue.
I brought my car to the dealership about this problem.  He told me it would cost about $400 to fix (some weird electrical issue).  Flabbergasted I thought screw that.  But he was soooo sure that was the problem.

flash forward a couple of months.  Battery very low, needs replacing.  Did so, for a grand total of $150.

Never had another the lock issue again.  All it was, was a very low battery that needed replacing.

zlastresort: if before 60 day if most of that happened you could take it back and demand your money back and they HAVE to give it to you. unless ofcorse you bought the car used. and I doubt all vdubs are like that. probly just a lemon. every company has lemons. be it a car manufacturer or an office!

I didn't get them to do anything.  so no money to get back.
I was just trying to make the point that VW dealerships have a history (with me) of trying to screw ya.  This was the 3rd or 4th time something like this occurred.
