Hey guys,
I messed up my oil pan the other day and knowing nothing about cars they quoted me 1040.41 to fix it. Thats well over three hundred dollars in labor. I found this rediculous having changed my own oil all my life and it doenst seen like it could be too hard of a piece to fix. I promptly pulled my passat out of the shop and now I'm going to attempt to fix it myself and hopefully save hundreds. All I want to know is am I getting in over my head? Is this a hard area of the car to be working on? What refrence materials to you recommend to walk me through the process? Thank you for your help if you can offer any.

Just an oil pan?? Grab a Chilton's or repair manual for your car, get a new pan, make sure you scrape all the old gasket off the block where you install the new pan, otheriwse you'll leak cause it will be an uneven mating surface. Gasket seal the other gasket with the new oil pan, and should be good to go. I dunno for sure, but when you take the old oil pan off, oil pump may come out, dunno never pulled off Passat's, but Ford's do it. OH, DRAIN THE OIL FIRST!! LOL...good luck!
