something to keep in mind with an auto for drag racing,...it is an advantage if you have a ton of power, but an auto drive train has more drivetrain loss to the wheels...the same car in auto and manual will almost always have differences in wheel horsepower.. for consitancies sake, it will be better with an auto, but with the manual, and a good driver, youll run quicker...on a stock car...(in most cases)

I have to agree and disagree. The benefit with auto in all cases (except rally or course)
is that by simply reprogramming the computer you can change your shift
points to a higher rpm to help stay in the power curve. Now add a stage 2
shift kit and no manual will touch you. Benefit of manual, the horsepower
won't change, it's about making the most efficient use of that power all
the time (stay in the power curve). But like I said, you'll never shift as
fast as an auto. Add the shift kit and reprogamming, you're ahead of the
game, and any manual.

ps. but manual will always be the most fun!!

but that reprogramming still doesnt account for the net power loss due to the added weight of the internal workings of an auto tranny.

If you do the #'s you'll see what I mean. I've seen
the applications, i've seen the tracks #'s and the power
"loss" is so small it isn't even worth mentioning.

Let me make it simple, put 2 identical cars both with
power adders installed, one auto, one manual (standard shift)
and I can guarrantee you that the manual won't stand a
chance. An auto can shift in anywhere from 0.15-0.30 of a second.
Spent lots of time in cars with a diagnostic reader and
even surprised the hell out of me.

They are both excellent designs, just each is individually
better for different conditions.
