Racing? Drag or course?

Keep a "tippy" (auto for drag, you'll never shift as fast
with a manual)

oh and btw, I dont' know about the VW tranni's
but generally to convert any FWD auto to
a manual takes a custom kit and crap load of
cash.

Yea...manual is a lot more fun, automatic
can get boring, but if you have trip it's kinda
the best of both worlds.

Well, tippy shouldn't take away from
your time. You don't clutch, so it's
just like auto, yet you have more control
over the shift points. The only thing thats
gonna take away from your time is lack of
experience, street tires, weather conditions,
etc. but since you're doing only 16's,
you're doing as best as you can for what you
got.

Best advice I can give you is learn your car inside
and out, learn how to drive THAT car, know every inch
of it. Every car is different, including identical make/models
every one of them has its own character.

Yea I think what you're talking about is called
traction control which is becoming very common
on all vehicles.

If you're still peeling out, you're not running serious
horsepower so it's safe to upgrade to a better
quality tire. Put on wider tires, it'll help with
traction. Problem is, when you put on a good tire
with a lot of horsepower, you hook up and it puts
strain on the transmission and things like the diff
and axle drive shafts, which will break with high torque/horsepower.
(unless you upgrade them to performance parts)

In this case, you dont' have to worry about that.
The higher quality tire should solve your problem. You may
end up buying new rims, I don't know...consult a local
shop that sells performance rubber (tires) and see if you can
get away with the rims you have.
