MMMM....kinda sounds like a rod knock.  When was the last time you did a full tune-up??  Maybe it's due, or your motor has too many miles on it, it's about to blow.

Has only like 50,000 miles on the clock, I tune my engine once  a month, cleaned the carb yesterday and it goes better but still has the problem

Ok, drive it down the freeway for a couple min, or the city for 10-15 min.  Look under the car and see if the cat's glowing red, if it is then it's plugged and that is a problem.  The jerking and sputtering when you are driving is usually a spark and fuel issue.  Clean everything you can, but with only 50,000 miles on it, you may just wanna ask the dealership.  What year?

96 or 97 model

I don't have a catalatic converter on.  My dizzy is vibrating and it damaged the rotor inside, fiddled with that yesterday and things are better but still there power has returned somewhat as well.

Dude. Its the classic and most common signs of saying ADJUST THE TIMING! try that and get back to me. if not check your plugs.
