Ok, I was just about ready to buy a Jetta 2.0T, when I started researching the company.

My dad fought in WW2, and I am hesitant to buy a car from a company started up by Hitler. The VW was Hitler's idea, he designed the bug, and the volkswagen was born.

Who can give me some insight into this dilemma ?

OK. Heres the thing. PORSHE was going to build the first bug. not VW. but Porshe's version sucked ass. so vw took over. just because the bug was hitlers idea means nothing. the bug is now a chick car anyways. (litterally, it has a flower holder near the steering column!) and I see no reason why you should be worried about your dad fought in WWII. Your not buying a bug.

writing about cars for a living, i have come across a little bit of vw history. porsche already had a prototype similar to the bug before hitler *shivers* approached him for the job. i think the prototype was called "motorwagen". seeing that the motorwagen already fulfilled many of the requirements set by der fuhrer for his "volkswagen", porsche simply modified the motorwagen to suit der fuhrer's tastes.

if you want to dig deeper, here's a link, and another link.
