Hello. I would stay away from 2000 Jettas. I have a 2000 VR6 and although I love the look and it's fun to drive, it has been a maintenance nightmare. I have 90,000 and I've had to replace the 02 sensor twice a year every year, replaced coil pack, replaced serpentine belt twice, replaced mass airflow sensor twice, fuel pump relay bad, all window clips replaced, replaced numerous burned-out lights (some mulitple times including headlights, tail lights, blinkers, and some interior dash lights), replaced the rear brake switch twice (part of recall), glove box broke, center console broke, front cup holder broke, rear cup holder broke on it's very first use, side mirrors have corroded around edges, airbag light comes on constantly even though I'm told nothing is wrong, cosmetic problems such as plastic coating over interior pieces peeling off, the 3 all plastic airflow pieces on front bumber fell off, right side of front bumber popped off when it dragged over a curb pulling out of a parking space (I know this is part my fault, but I was barely over the curb and I wasn't being reckless or anything), and finally incompetent and flat out rude customer service from reputable VW dealership (I have since taken the car to a different dealership who is much better). I take reasonably good care of my cars, and do not drive recklessly. I feel like the 2000 at the very least suffers from serious quality issues and I feel like VW will not answer to them. Take a look at Car Survey and see how many people have had the exact same issues I have had.
