Hi,

We recently purchased a 98 and a 99 VW Beetle.  The 99 has been pretty good, but the 98 has been a series of problems.

The current problem is that the previous owner had an accident and damaged the fog lamp.  I bought a replacement fog lamp on ebay.  The mounting was damaged, so I can't just leave the old one mounted and replace only the bulb.  Instead, I've got to replace the assembly.  There are three screws that hold it in place, but the clearance above each screw is so small that I can't get in with anything to remove the old ones and put in the new.  Surely there must be some way to do this without moving the whole bumper assembly.  The manual described that as an operation involving two people and a lift.  There's got to be an easier way to do this, right?

Thanks,
Bruce

Hello
Are you are talking about the front fog lights if so you can get on the top screws between the bumper and bumper bracket using a cross head screw driver bit and a 6mm spanner. It is tight but i have done this before. Hope this helps Chris

Yeah, that's exactly it.  I'm not sure how I'm going to hold the screw driver bit in place while I use a 6mm wrench.  It is so tight and so hidden, it's hard to look and do anything at the same time.  I don't have a lift or anything like that.  Thanks for your help.
