Hey everyone, trying to get some information and or thoughts about this. My buddy has a 95 cabriolet, and is looking to do a motor swap but is indifferent on which motor to swap with. He is looking at the vr6 and the 1.8t. Which would you say would be the better motor for this car and why? We don't have much knowledge on VW builds but are looking for any help in pursuing either of these motors.

DONT START THIS AGAIN PLZ!!!! Joelzy and Bagel will start a war! lol ummm. there both good. having only driven and worked on a 1.8 it would be biased for me to tell you which is beter. 1.8's are easy to work on. I'm 16 and I've had one to the block and back. BAGEL AND JOELZY:  dont start a war over this one please!

Ohh, not trying to start a war. Just trying to figure out the advantage of each motor. That's all, not trying to start anything. I would be looking at upgrading the 1.8's turbo or going all engine with the vr6. If you want to compare the two thats cool but not looking to bash either motor. Just looking for any each person's experience. If you have a vr6 let me know what you did to it and the stock vs modded outcome; same with the 1.8t. No need to bash on two good motors. But please help, any personal experience will help. Looking mostly to see if either of these motors are what we should be looking at or if anyone has recommendations. Like I said we are new to the VW modding scene and want to get the best bang for the buck.

i would go for the VR6 it is a much better than the 1.8T. if you want a turbo then turbo the VR6. is is a better engine stock and the gains from aftermarket will be greater.
