Engine in Golf Mark II

Spathodus77 -> Engine in Golf Mark II (3/18/2007 5:16:58 AM)

Hi,

I have a 1990 1.6 diesel golf mark II, in order to save for a classic I'm starting to do my own repairs & servicing.  The problem is that although there is a Haynes manual for the petrol golf mark II there is none for the diesel.  Advice that I have received to date suggests that the petrol Haynes manual will be fine for brake/interior work.  Obviously it will not be able to help with any engine related items.

Does anyone know if this engine was also used in earlier or later models of golf or other types of VW?

Thanks,

Ralph.

Hi Ralph,
If you are skilled in languages, a manual exists in french : it's called RTA VOLKSWAGEN GOLF ET JETTA DIESEL N° 463 and covers Golf & Jetta diesel since 84. It is quite complete for all kind of work you have to do, with drawings (engine, brakes, steering,...).  Here in France, it is the bible of self repair. You can buy it from Ebay and maybe download it from peer to peer network (a friend just told me, I must check).

Hope it helps,

The dealers use the Robert Bentley service manual and it is available almost anywhere you can get Haynes manuals
