85' vw vanagon fuel pump problems...HELLPPP!!!

I have just recently purchased a 85 vanagon. We replaced the battery . we managed to turn it over while spraying eether on the starter. couldn't keep it running. we took the fuel pump out and made sure it was pumping, used battery to give current it blew air. but when we put it back on, there was nothing... my dad thinks that it is not getting power, anything would be of use we are new to vw but he works on alot of cars.. looking for a possible diagram for fueling or info abour relays or fuses!!  totally lost  please help us!!

I remember a year ago,  you and my friend have the same situation since it is newly purchased... He did replaced the battery and as well as making sure of VW fuel pump but it doesn't work.  He really don't know what to do and what to check... A week passed by whithout no improvement, he decided to call the office for waranty assistance of  his vanagon.

... why don't you try to  do the same thing as my friend did... That's all I can help. Goodluck!
