I'll keep this short. Service advisor at the local VW dealership said that the 1.8T requires synthetic motor oil. To the best of anyone's knowledge, is this true?

Hey Splitter,

Not sure about the 1.8T, but my TDI requires synthetic oil. The turbo runs so hot that it can cook conventional oil, causing blocked oil ports and oil flow problems. I talked to a VW mechanic who has seen engines ruined from this sort of thing. I'd spend the extra couple of bucks per quart to prevent a problem later. Just my 2 cents...
