Ok... This is my 11th VW since 1974. It also has the lousiest feul mileage of any of them.

2002 Jetta wagon, 2.0, auto (ick), K&N filter (in stock box), new platinum plugs and Mobil 1 BUT :

Steady 72 mph cruise, A/C on, ambient temp: 85 F = 20-23 mpg highway. No A/C, ambient temp: 75, 72 mph = 23-25 mpg

No check engine light. I'm a little honked about my OBDII analyzer not working with VW's OBDII connector so I cannot see code history and O2 sensor outputs.

This isn't much better than my old Audi 5000 Turbo! My Ford Explorer gets a steady 19 mpg at 70 mph, my Probe GT 2.5 V6 gets 22-23 mpg.

My wife's 2001 Honda Accord 235 HP V6 4 door gets 28 mpg highway! With the air on and 75 mph!

I bought this Jetta because EPA mileage (New method) was a good deal better than what I'm getting. It's weight isn't  much more than the sedan.

I passed up a 2001 Passat 4Motion wagon for this Jetta because I wanted better mileage than the V6 but now I'm wondering whether I shoulda bought a Mazda3...

I Love my VW and I operated a VW repair shop and built monster air cooled motors and I even lived out of a '74 bus (with a 165 HP Pinto 2.0) for a year and a half so I really want to give my Jetta a chance but I'm wondering if my last good Jetta was my '81 4 door....

Anyone know if I'm missing something? I even inflated the tires to the VW suggested max.

Thanks....
