hey guys new to the forum and to vw's. i just traded my 07 civic si for an 02 gti vr6 12v and i love it so far! i filled up on gas yesterday for the first time, and shortly after threw a CEL. i read the manual and it said that the car should be filled up on premium unleaded. since i didnt use the 91 octane gas, do you think that could be what is causing the CEL, or is that just coincidence? also, an airbag light is on, but that was there prior to the CEL. any help is greatly appreciated, thanks guys.

ok, well i will assumed you used regular gas and thats when you threw the cel. well, here is my recomendation, take it to auto zone or something and have them clear it. then when your tank is almost empty, go fill it up with the chevron techron gas, it will clean the engine out some. (and if the CEL came back on before you put the new gas in, it oughta clear it up)

about the air bag light, that has something to do with your brake light switch, i know, sounds dumb, BUT it is indeed the case. take it to VW and they can read your car and tell you what recalls it needs, and recalls are free! the brake light switch is one of em. and if that pesky CEL is on then, they can clear it for you.
