I have a 2001 Beetle. 2.0 liter.   A few months ago the engine light came on.  A few weeks later it went off for about 3 weeks.  Then it came back on and has stayed on.  I got the code P1128  Fuel too Lean.   From my research ive found it could be  the MAF sensor, Vacume lines or possable a O2 sensor.      The car runs fine for the most part.  When its cool it hesitate a timy bit till it warms up.    Im wondering if anyone else has had this problem ????/     Also is there a way to check the MAF sensor or the O2 sensors  to see if they are good or not ???????     I would like to take care of this myself if I can , Im trying to avoid the Garage if I can....

O2 sensors are relatively cheap and it wouldn't hurt to replace it. If you don't know how they work I can give you a brief run down:

An O2 sensor is an emissions control device that monitors the mixture of the exhaust and transmits that back to the computer to adjust the fuel/air mixture to cut down on harmful emissions. When it starts to fail it provides faulty readings and will tell the computer to adjust the fuel/air mixture improperly, and the circle goes round and round.

I replaced the sensor in my Buick last fall and it made the car drive so much better. I'm just glad my air-cooled Beetles don't need them! :)
