The 1500 stickshift model beetle has indipendant rear suspension. Is this a must, or can the engine and gearbox be fitted to a 1300. Alternatevely, can a 1300 model be converted to IRS for fitting a stickshift engine and gearbox unit. I have the stickshift car, so wonder if the IRS from this car will fit onto a 1300 car chassis, along with this engine unit, to make up a good car, chassis, and stickshift engine unit, as the stickshift is rotten.

Just thinking out loud, when you say stick shift, do you mean auto stick shift? or are you saying straight shift. VW had a auto stick shift introduced in 1968 which was another VW mistake. If your saying 4speed straight shift then they will interchange.
